[ARCHIVED] Fireworks restrictions in place in the City of Moab

As the Fourth of July and Pioneer Day holidays near, the City of Moab urges residents and visitors to help protect the community by respecting the city’s restrictions on the use of fireworks within city limits. These measures are in place to protect public safety and reduce the risk of fire hazards.

Key Restrictions:

  • Fireworks are prohibited on parkways, public trails, pedestrian paths, and within 200 feet of Pack Creek or Mill Creek.
  • Fireworks are also banned within 20 feet of any residence, building, structure, or combustible material.
  • The use of fireworks is prohibited in City parks, except for the Center Street ball fields.
  • Certain types of fireworks are always prohibited by city and by state law, except when they are part of an approved professional fireworks display. 

Prohibited Fireworks in Utah:

  • Explosives: Firecrackers, cannon crackers, ground salutes, M-80s, cherry bombs, and other similar explosives.
  • Aerial Devices: Skyrockets, missile-type rockets, single-shot or reloadable aerial shells or mortars, and any rocket-based devices, including bottle rockets and comets.
  • Large Pyrotechnic Devices: Mines or cakes containing more than 500 grams of pyrotechnic material (check packaging for details).
  • Other Fireworks: Roman candles, firecrackers, cherry bombs, and rockets mounted on a stick or wire, including any other Class "C" fireworks not approved by the State of Utah.

The city asks community members to help protect themselves and their neighborhoods by following all fireworks regulations.

Additional Fire Safety Reminder:
 The City of Moab also reminds residents that burning yard waste or any other debris is prohibited within city limits.

Legal Fireworks Discharge Hours:
July 4 Holiday

  • July 2, 3, and 5: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • July 4: 11 a.m. to midnight.

Pioneer Day Holiday

  • July 22, 23, 25: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • July 24: 11 a.m. to midnight.

The annual community fireworks display sponsored by the City of Moab and Grand County will be held at dark near Sand Flats on Friday, July 4. 

Fireworks Restrictions on Federal Lands
Fireworks and exploding targets are not allowed on Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management lands.
